Mmm, popcorn.

List of movies to see in the next (approximately) 5 weeks:

  • Dawn of the Dead
  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  • The Ladykillers
  • Hellboy
  • Kill Bill, vol. 2
  • Shaolin Soccer
  • Van Helsing
  • The Punisher?
  • The Whole Ten Yards?
  • The Passion of the Christ?

Anything I'm missing? At current ticket prices, I may have to rob a bank to be able to see all these.

Well, having just gotten back from seeing Hellboy, I can say it was great. :) Great action, good characters, very quotable.

I also liked Shaolin Soccer, but we rented it on dvd I believe several months ago... I don't think it's really worth the big screen prices, but rent it if you get a chance. Very off the wall. :)

Tim really wants to see Eternal Sunshine but he's not gone yet...

I want to see Van Helsing and was pondering some others on the list... anyways! Give us reviews as you see them :)

The Ladykillers is definitely not the best comedy the COens have made, compared to say, Big Lebowski or Intolerable Cruelty, but you will find, like those two, it houses some of the greatest one-liners ever to be written in movies.

Also, Shaolin Soccer in theatres has supposedly been edited for western cinema. We should get together and watch the bootleg copy at some point. Especially because of the fact that it's a genuinely funny kung-fu movie parody, these things really can't be fully appreciated without bootleg subtitles with lines like "I can't imagine how wonderful of the American medication!"

Ah, good times.

Home on the Range (it's supposed to have a similar sense of humor to The Emperor's New Groove...in the trailer, a bull uses the pick-up line "Got Milk?" on a cow).

Eternal Sunshine is very good.

There's something else that just came out or will soon that I want to see, but I can't remember it at the moment.

Also, Los Skeleton seems to be long gone from theatres, so it looks like I'll have to rent it.

Movie update:

I predicted "The Whole Ten Yards" to be the best sequel of 2004 (naturally, because Kill Bill is one movie, I didn't count part two. Plus I predicted Kill Bill Vol. 2 to be the best movie of 2004 period.) in the Northwestern Chronicle, and considering its horrendous reviews I went to see it today to ostensibly write a "Boy, was I wrong" column tomorrow.

And, believe you me, there's a reason that its percentile rating on rottentomatoes rivals Battlefield Earth. It does a fair job of taking everything The Whole Nine Yards did right and doing the exact opposite.
