Dream Sequence

My dreams the last few days have been unusually vivid. In idle moments I find myself reviewing them, like an archaeologist attempting to assemble disparate artifacts into a single coherent picture.

  • I am at a party at someone's house. Many people I know are here, and they all want to talk to me about different issues. Later I will give a speech in honor of the hostess, but I haven't worked out what I'm going to say; I need to find a quiet place to sit down and think about this. So I try to make my way through the crowd, but it's slow going as people stop me to raise their concerns. I listen politely, but my mind is on what I need to do. Time is running out...
  • A knight on a charger, wielding a flaming sword, battles a dragon amidst the ruins of an abandoned castle. Jets of green and red flame arc across the night sky.
  • I have just checked in at the security desk of a menacing Wolfram & Hart style office building, where I am claiming to be a legitimate visitor. My true purpose here is to steal an important document from a particular office. I take the elevator to an observation deck meant for tourists, and then enter a labyrinth of white corridors. But I lose my way, and end up in a research lab. I increase my pace, looking for an exit, but all I see are laboratories with experiments out of Lovecraft, tentacled horrors dissected on stainless steel tables. Finally I reach a stairwell, and make for the ground floor, abandoning my original mission. My excursion has been spotted on security cameras, and I am being pursued. I burst out a back door at the bottom of the stairwell, discard some incriminating objects in the alley, and flee through the city streets.

I have dim recollections of other dreams from the last few days, but these are the ones that stand out. Of course there's no reason they should be connected, but there seems to be an unusual amount of conflict in various forms.

Maybe it is once again your inner thriller writer coming out. Or you might consider dropping the bedtime snack of jalapeno potato chips.

My very favorite professor once told me that to understand what your dreams mean you need to ask the dream itself. He said that while you're still half-asleep you need to say "What does this mean?" and the dream will explain itself. I don't know if it works, I'm just repeating what he said.

Completely randomly, located here because the open thread is about to be out of date:

"And the Ordinary heaves an immense sigh, for he has been reading for a long time, and lo, he thirsteth mightily for the wine on the Lord's Table, for his throat is as dry as a place in the wilderness without water, amen."
