2005 Reading List

Posted by Arcane Gazebo at December 28, 2004 2:46 PM

As a counterpart to the previous post, here's a list of the books currently in my stack to be read.

Of course, this list is subject to modification, and in particular A Feast for Crows will jump to the front upon its release...

I just started rereading the original Hitchhiker's Guide for the first time in 17 years. As much as I loved it then, I should be able to appreciate plenty of things more now. (The movie comes out on 5/6/05. It's only about 20 years late. :) Actually, I don't know if the movie's screenplay is the original one. I would guess it isn't. Anyway, once I saw the trailer last week---which reminded me about the current incarnation of the project---I officially started my countdown.)

Also, there was a comment in an article in _Dungeon_ magazine about some way of DMing that shouldn't be done "unless every player in your campaign is a physicist..."

Now, the writer (Monte Cook) used this phrase as if this is something that couldn't happen, yet I have been in at least 2 campaigns in which everybody has been a physicist! (This counts astronomy as physics and me as physics, both of which are accurate in my book. I'm technically math first and physics second, but I usually publish in physics journals and I have a joint appointment in physics, so I count. :) )

I just received Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell for Xmas. Still working on finishing up Cryptonomicon first.
