Berkeley readers take note: My advisor, John Clarke, will give the Faculty Research Lecture today. Part of the talk will be on work I've contributed to. It's at 5 pm in the Berkeley Art Museum Theater.

very nice

It's quite a cool feeling to see one's one discussed in big lecture halls. (Actually, this hasn't happened to me in my presence, but it will be cool when it does happen. :) )

Non sequitar: At dinner on Sunday, I heard the song Girls and Boys by Blur (sorry if I screwed up the title) for the first time since a certain 1998 airband skit. Then I thought of Tim's performance in that skit and wished I weren't eating dinner at the time. :)

I still insist we should have won. Damn judges get offended too easily, or maybe they just don't like The Price is Right...

Also: I heard the 'j' word for sprinkles recently (from a Boston transplant who now works at a local ice cream place). Shudder...

Travis, are you up for going to dinner with Techers (say, at Black Angus) before we actually leave for gaming on Friday afternoon. We might want to go when they have steak soup rather than clam chowder. Also, there's a really good meat place in BH near my home that has the best ribs ever---are you driving down to the meeting? Do you want to go there?

Technically I should scold you for not using the open thread for off-topic comments, but I don't actually care very much. :) Anyway, I am driving down to the meeting, and am up for dinner at Black Angus and any other recommended venues. (For at least one evening I will be occupied with the Clarke group dinner, but otherwise I will probably be free.) If Wednesday is one of my free evenings I might be interested in a Tarantino's run as well...

As for Airband, we were robbed in 1998 and in (I think) 2000 as well (when I performed with Off-Campus). Ironically, my most elaborate costume was in 2001, which went with the least elaborate skit.

We should arrange to return as Airband judges so we can make sure it's done properly. :)

Unless by "elaborate" you mean "attrociously ugly dress", in which case you took the cake in '98.

I judged airband in 2003. I was around for my 5 year reunion, so I helped out with that. The judges were me, Francis Siu, Mike Tice, Frautschi, and the about-to-be-new RA. Frautschi volunteered me to announce the results. I gave honorable mention to an alley that didn't participate because I was informed I should say positive things about everybody. :)

As for the open thread, it would have helped had I noticed that.

As for the March Meeting, e-mail me your hotel info and include your cell phone number, because I'm not sure if I still have that info. When do you arrive?
