Friday Random 10: I Like Traffic Lights

In another instance of iPod/real world synchronicity, I was listening to the end of Sleater-Kinney's song "Jumpers", where they repeat the line Four seconds is the longest wait, when I arrived at an intersection and looked over to see the crossing signal count down: 4, 3, 2, 1...

I take this as a clear sign I need to do a Friday Random 10 today.

Several of these songs are really good (and my iPod seems to be on an Élan Vital kick) but the best is "Your Cover's Blown"—in fact, that song is a trump card in almost any set of 10 from my library. According to Last.fm it's my second most-played song after My Bloody Valentine, "To Here Knows When".

I'm rather sleepy, though I did most of my catching-up today, as long as you only count things that accrued while I was gone rather than stuff on which I was behind before I left.

"This Town" is my favorite song on this list.

Your #9 is probably not the Belle & Sebastian song titled "Beautiful" (They let Lisa go blind / But everyone she knew thought she was beautiful), since it does not sound remotely like Garbage. Could it be Christina Aguilera (I am beautiful / No matter what they say / Words can't bring me down)?

I probably lose a huge chunk of indie cred for knowing lyrics to Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful".

No, you just gain Christina cred. :) You'd only lose cred if you didn't know something indie.

It's not that song. I just tried googling a portion of the lyrics (if I am beautiful like you) and couldn't find it. I also tried a lyrics site, but I had no success there either.

I think the song is from the late 90s and I'm pretty sure some "alternative" stations played it.
