Drastic Measures

Posted by Arcane Gazebo at September 13, 2006 2:15 PM

As I struggle with a particularly severe case of writer's block, I am starting to wonder whether, like many writers, I should look for inspiration in personal suffering. And it has been noted that my reviews of CDs and other media tend to be almost uniformly positive, and maybe some negative reviews would be more interesting. So, I am going to consider the interesting and exciting new CDs released yesterday—TV on the Radio's Return to Cookie Mountain, Yo La Tengo's I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass, the Junior Boys' So This Is Goodbye—and then I am going to ignore them, and instead write a detailed review of Justin Timberlake's new album FutureSex/LoveSounds. I'm hoping that the experience of listening to it will provide enough pain, rage, and existential angst to fill a blog post.

Due to time constraints, it probably won't appear until tomorrow, but you may consider yourselves warned. Maybe I should liveblog it?

I worry, though, that you will find it enchanting, if fluffy, and then we'll have a new Timberlake fan on our hands.

I have been revisiting my book-reading habits and reviews, and discovering that, if there aren't a lot of books that I absolutely love and can't live without, at least I've learned to get rid of the ones I really disliked. Unfortunately, this means it's hard to copy/paste old reviews into my inventory database at LibraryThing, because I no longer have the book in my possession.

It could happen. Even the rock-snob publications have been giving it high ratings. On the other hand, "Rock Your Body" is one of my all-time most hated songs, so it will be quite a turnaround if I like the new stuff.

I don't know where the sexy went, but I'm glad Justin Timberlake is bringing it back.

You should totally liveblog this, by the way.

Also, why are you putting yourself through this?

As concerns writer's block, there's always stream-of-consciousness blogging. I make most of those posts in that style, although that's mostly because I live life with that style. (No filters! Or at least ones with long time delays.)

I vote for liveblogging, let us know in advance if you're going to do it so we can tune in in real time! :)

If you could rig up some equipment in the lab to webcast realtime biometric response, that would kick ass--I want to see blinks per second (an indicator of twitchiness), heart rate, brow humidity, etc...

Privacy my ass, this is the intarweb!
