Friday Random 10: Emergency Filler

Posted by Arcane Gazebo at October 13, 2006 4:43 PM

I just noticed that I've only posted four times in the month of October. Um... here's a Friday Random 10! (If only I had some cat pictures...)

  1. Stereolab, "Percolator"
  2. TV on the Radio, "Ambulance"
  3. Radiohead, "No Surprises"
  4. The Decemberists, "The Engine Driver"
  5. The Arcade Fire, "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)"
  6. Nirvana, "Stay Away"
  7. Radiohead, "Paranoid Android"
  8. Sleater-Kinney, "The Remainder"
  9. Pixies, "Where Is My Mind?"
  10. Franz Ferdinand, "Evil and a Heathen"

This is from the four-and-five-star playlist, which accounts for the very high quality of the selection.

Purify the colors, purify my mind.
Purify the colors, purify my mind,
and spread the ashes of the colors
in this heart of mine.

I very much appreciate the title of the song, "Paranoid Android." :) For the reference, of course...

Here is my pseudorandom 10 (taken from my entire playlist). Let's see if anything interesting comes up.

1. Crash Test Dummies, "Superman Song"
2. Voice of the Beehive, "I'm Shooting Cupid"
3. Röyksopp, "So Easy"
4. Scorpions, "Send Me An Angel"
5. Elton John, "The One"
6. The Cruxshadows, "Here Comes The Rain Again"
7. Lee Perry/Baz Luhrmann, "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen"
8. The Beatles, "I Want to Hold Your Hand"
9. Presidents of the United States of America, "Peaches"
10. Bananarama, "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"

This was an extremely solid set of songs! Of these, my favorite by far is "Send Me An Angel." Song #6 is an awesome cover of the Eurtyhmics' original. Song #10 is good, but Bananarama's covers of "Help" and (especially!) "Waterloo" are much better.

Mine:

1: David Bowie, "Fame" (Pretty Woman version)
2: Kupek, "Desolay"
3: Violent Femmes, "Ugly" (UK Single)
4: Yasunori Mitsuda, "Schala's Theme"
5: Violent Femmes, "4 Seasons"
6: Mindless Self Indulgence, "Bring the Pain"
7: Booker T. & the MGs, "Green Onions" (Get Shorty Soundtrack)
8: David Bowie, "Station to Station"
9: Franz Ferdinand, "Take Me Out"
10: Offspring, "Change the World"

Anyone who hasn't heard the David Bowie songs is missing out on life.

Anyone who hasn't heard Mindless Self Indulgence's cover of Method Man's "Bring the Pain" is missing out on the new generation of anger music.

Anyone who hasn't heard the Violent Femmes has no right to consider themselves angsty.

Everyone should hear Kupek.

Anyone who doesn't have wistful memories of Schala's theme is a terrible person.

I once beat a man 151-0 in Street Fighter II. Just to watch him die.
