Other top music lists

Posted by Arcane Gazebo at December 19, 2006 12:46 PM

If you'd like some other indie-rockish lists of top songs of the year, there's Stylus's top 50 singles and Pitchfork's top 100 tracks. There's some overlap between their lists and mine; "Wolf Like Me" and "Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken" appear on all three. Also some respectable alternate choices from some of the same albums I drew from. However, both publications appear to have a case of the crazies: Stylus puts Justin Timberlake's "My Love" at #6, and Pitchfork names it the #1 song of the year. So approach these lists with some skepticism.

They also have top albums lists up; I'll do one myself closer to the new year.

I'd just like you to know - I REALLY appreciated this post. It pushed a gigantic photo off of my friends list which was making the whole thing hard to read.

Oh, and it was interesting. Really. *8)

How is Justin Timberlake indie/alt/anything but pop trash?

He's not, but the lists in general are indie rock oriented, with bits of other genres.

I noticed in the Charlotte newspaper today a Jake Coyle of Associated Press lists a few artists on his Top Ten album list that you mentioned also: TV on the Radio, Camera Obscura, the Decembrists, and Artic Monkeys are the ones I noticed.

I checked out the Belle and Sebastian song and album that you listed, and found that I really like this group. Thanks for the list -- I'm finding lots of new music to try out...

Belle & Sebastian are perhaps my favorite band ever. If you have an iTunes account, definitely get the live version of If You're Feeling Sinister. If not, the studio version is a good substitute. Also, Push Barman To Open Old Wounds, a compilation of their singles and EPs, is really good.
