Today's Scary Go Round was highly entertaining for those of us who have to keep the volts happy:

Yeah, I got a good, healthy laugh out of that line. Between prac phys, mishaps with a taser, and experimenting with my own high voltage power supplies, Volts and I have had several heated arguments. Like, to the tune of a kilovolt or ten (in the case of the taser).
Oh, and there's something about Ryan's eyes in the left panel there. Much like the face of a child about to stick a fork in an outlet... for the second time.
Posted by: Lemming | December 13, 2006 2:11 PMOh, and that reminds me of a great story.
I think I was 9 or 10 years old. I had recently acquired, from my grandfather, an ancient, hand-crank telephone generator.
(I'm sure I'm not relating the dialog even close to verbatim, but kidz dunt talk 2 gud, y'know?)
"Hey Rob," I told my (older) brother, "I've got a great idea. Let's attach this long wire to the generator. You stand ready on the crank, and I'll sneak up behind someone. When I give you the signal, we'll give them a shock."
So, I walked in a big circle. Never out of sight, mind you. I touched the wires to his back... "Now!"
Surprisingly, it worked. Not surprisingly, I got a lot of exercise running for my life.

I naturally this of the good old Capacitor Wars that Julius Su had in Fleming House when he was a frosh.
I won't go into details right now -- and you can read about it in a certain book when it comes out in May -- but suffice it to say that most of our O Chem colab sessions for the entire year would start with Julius bragging about the new capacitor he had just acquired. Opening the doors to rooms was pretty dangerous back then. [[moment of silence for hyperspace]]
